Crossing Boundaries in Calit2 Theater
Yesterday we showed a series of devised pieces created in the Crossing Boundaries class here at UCSD. Crossing Boundaries is a devised collaboration class between UCSD's theater, music, visual arts, and dance departments led by Shahrokh Yadegari, Victoria Petrovich, and Lisa Porter. All of the pieces were interdisciplinary with a particular focus on the relationship of embodied performance, technology, and identity. I was involved in three of the pieces, including one led by Elisabet Curbelo which involved dancing while connected to sensors with built-in accelorators which would control lights and sound based on our movement, and another that used Beckett's Rough for Theatre I as inspiration for a duet between an actor and a piece of music composed by Tiange Zhou.
